Introduction
Although Gangwon State is often recognized primarily as a mountainous tourist destination centered around Seoraksan and the Taebaek Mountain Range, the East Sea also offers abundant appeal as a marine tourism destination. With its clear waters, diverse culinary options, spectacular sunrises in various forms, and rich resources for sport fishing—including cod, amberjack, yellowtail, and black porgy—it holds great potential as a renowned marine tourism destination both domestically and internationally. Additionally, several ice-free ports closest to Russia are concentrated in this region. Recently, the Gangwon State East Sea Rim Headquarters has been established, actively promoting a marina belt connecting Gangneung, Yangyang, Sokcho, and Samcheok. As a result, the area is rapidly emerging as a central hub for yacht and marine tourism.
Tour Guide
The marina attracts attention by offering a comprehensive set of facilities in one location, including a six-story clubhouse (total floor area of 1,937㎡), yacht sales and repair shops, restaurants, berthing facilities, and water area facilities. In particular, the East Sea region, which previously lacked proper yacht mooring facilities, now has the opportunity to invigorate related tourism industries. On the left side of the marina are facilities capable of accommodating excursion boats, cruise ships, and superyachts, while the right side serves as a harbor for fishing vessels. The berthing facilities can accommodate approximately 40 yachts and are equipped with basic lighting and water supply systems, ensuring safe and adequate storage for high-value yachts.
Travel Tips
The clubhouse serves as a space for exclusive social activities for marina members and is typically equipped with cafés, banquet and party halls, shower rooms, and even accommodation facilities. At the Gangneung Yacht Clubhouse, a café, convenience shop, and marina management office are currently in operation for yacht users. A spacious parking area is also available around the harbor. The yacht marina has played a significant role in transforming Gangneung Port, traditionally centered on fishing, into a more refined tourist destination. With its accommodation facilities, it is an excellent choice for visitors seeking clean and comfortable lodging in Gangneung, where condominiums are relatively scarce. Once you stay here, it is a place you will want to revisit on your next trip to Gangneung. The presence of elegant yachts adds a special charm to Gangneung Port, allowing visitors to experience scenes reminiscent of dramas or movies. Located right by the sea, the marina gives the feeling of being at a foreign harbor, and sailing across the ocean on a yacht is an incomparable experience. Nearby is Gangneung Port, formerly known as Anmok Port, which has gained renewed vitality with ferry routes to Ulleungdo. Along the coastline, a famous coffee street has been developed, attracting visitors throughout all four seasons. Next to the yacht marina is a small hill, offering excellent views of both sunrise and sunset. There is also a breakwater along the sea where visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk. Located about three hours away via expressway, Gangneung Port Yacht Marina continues to gain popularity as the number of yacht enthusiasts increases.
