Although Gangwon State is often recognized primarily as a mountainous tourist destination centered around Seoraksan and the Taebaek Mountain Range, the East Sea also offers abundant appeal as a marine tourism destination. With its clear waters, diverse culinary options, spectacular sunrises in various forms, and rich resources for sport fishing—including cod, amberjack, yellowtail, and black porgy—it holds great potential as a renowned marine tourism destination both domestically and internationally. Additionally, several ice-free ports closest to Russia are concentrated in this region. Recently, the Gangwon State East Sea Rim Headquarters has been established, actively promoting a marina belt connecting Gangneung, Yangyang, Sokcho, and Samcheok. The marina attracts attention by offering a comprehensive set of facilities in one location, including a six-story clubhouse (total floor area of 1,937㎡), yacht sales and repair shops, restaurants, berthing facilities, and water area facilities.
