Introduction

  • Tour Guide
  • Wolhwa Street is a 2.6 km linear park stretching from Gangneung Station to Buheung Village. The entrance area is developed as the “Mal Nanumteo Park,” followed by Imdang Square known as the “Traditional Market Square.” The area next to Homeplus is the “History & Culture Plaza,” while the Jungang and Seongnam Market areas are designated as the “Lifestyle Culture Plaza.”
  • Travel Tips
  • The name “Wolhwa Street” originates from the local legend of Mu-Wollang and Lady Yeonhwa, a tragic love story. A pavilion once stood on a rock at Yeonhwabong by the Namdaecheon Stream. It was named “Wolhwajeong Pavilion,” combining “Wol” from Mu-Wollang and “Hwa” from Lady Yeonhwa. The original pavilion was destroyed by a major flood in 1936, and a memorial stone now marks the site, along with a reconstructed pavilion nearby.
